Background

SpliceCom helps all companies, irrespective of size, to gain a business advantage over their competitors through the deployment of advanced communication solutions. Based in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire, SpliceCom was founded in 2001, with the sole aim of developing and bringing to market a flexible and affordable Business Telephony system to meet the ever more demanding and sophisticated communication needs demanded by today's business.

SpliceCom was founded by the management and key personnel behind the two most successful UK voice and data convergence companies of the 1990's - SDX Business Systems and Network Alchemy. CEO/Managing Director Sean Harding was the founder of both ISDN Router specialist Scorpion Logic and Network Alchemy, where he was supported by Product Marketing Director Robin Hayman. SpliceCom co-founders Frank Bretherton and Jeremy Cooke, were the men who, in seven years grew SDX from a £8m loss making, Management Buy Out from STC to a near £60m business, floated on the UK Stock Market in 1996 and subsequently acquired by Lucent Technologies for £124m.

As a 21st Century company, with the luxury of a clean sheet of paper on which to design a modern telephone system, SpliceCom, has been able to take advantage of the latest innovations in silicon based technology to deliver up-to-the-minute advances in customer handling and interaction. These benefits have previously only been within the reach of Blue Chip organisations with large budgets that are a pre-requisite for the system integration required to make this possible. Needless to say, SpliceCom have not suffered from the design and marketing handicaps imposed on traditional PBX manufacturers, allowing them to deliver a system which is capable of combining information, be it by voice, video or web-enabled IT applications to deliver unique and tangible business benefits in a cost-effective manner.

What Does a SpliceCom Customer Look Like?

Having started shipping maximiser in early 2003, there are now a significant number of organisations enjoying the business advantages provided by SpliceCom’s unique approach to “Pure IP” Business Telephony. These include;

  • Multi-Site Companies
  • Campus Based Organisations
  • Businesses with Mobile and/or Homeworking employees
  • Serviced Offices & Multi-Tenancies
  • Companies with modern communication needs

In particular maximiser has sold particularly well into the Construction and Automotive industries, Business Centres and Educational establishments. SpliceCom’s ethos to treat the Microsoft, Mac OS X and Linux operating systems as equals – in addition to embracing open industry standards wherever they exist - has also seen maximiser become a firm favourite with companies in the IT sector.

SpliceCom has a very broad base of customers using its Business Telephone System - indeed it’s true to say that there’s no such thing as a typical maximiser customer. From very small to very large, from single site to multi-site, from simple dial-tone requirements to sophisticated web-based IT application convergence, every customer “moulds” maximiser into what ever they want it to deliver for their particular business.

Award Winning SpliceCom

Following its launch in 2003, maximiser was voted “The Most Innovative New Product or Service” at the UK’s Comms Channel Awards 2004 in a section specifically targeted at new companies. In support of the award the judges felt that; "In a very competitive field SpliceCom's maximiser stood out as being a highly commercial proposition for the channel, delivering the innovative applications that have become the trademark of the management team who have once again put together a winning product."

A year later SpliceCom’s client productivity tool for the Apple environment – PCS 50 for Mac OS X – was recognised by a panel of industry experts at the Comms Channel Awards 2005 as the overall “Most Innovative New Product or Service.” The judges supported this award by saying “SpliceCom’s PCS 50 for OS X is a truly unique application as it enables the delivery of advanced business telephony to the rapidly expanding Apple Mac community for the very first time.”

In 2006 SpliceCom co-founders Frank Bretherton and Jeremy Cooke were honoured with a special Channel Achievement Award at the UK Comms Channel Gala Dinner. Held at The National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham and presented by the Editor of Comms Business magazine, Ian Hunter, the award recognised the pioneering efforts of the duo in developing and launching the revolutionary INDeX business telephone system whilst leading SDX Business Systems in the mid-90’s.
